America possesses the natural resources to meet the basic needs of all its people—provided we equip our citizens with the opportunity and the expertise to manage them. Our declining competitiveness is not a new phenomenon; it is the result of a decades-long failure to value and empower our teachers. We have allowed political narratives of division to replace the hard evidence of excellence. We must champion an education that reconnects students with the best aspects of the American experiment: our diversity across states, cultures, and backgrounds. We are the United States.
